Headaches, Blood, Pain & A Redesign
Well,
Outside of taking frequent trips to z land courtesy of the happy pill fairy I've been pretty much confined to my chair. It's a nice chair. Leather, it rocks, it spins and it has been acting as my bed as well. Keeps me from rolling over on my ear at night. OHHHH That would HURT!
Anyway, between dabs with tissue to catch the blood that trickles from my ear I've been busy redesigning my blog. Hope you like it. I was getting tired of the other look and I needed something to do. This will be the 3rd renovation of Life on Yavin IV.
Please comment, I need the company. Just me, my chair and oh yeah...Happy Pill Fairy.

TK-421 IS ALIVE!
"TK-421, Why aren't you at your post? TK-421 Do you copy?" - Troop Commander

I've seen that scene at least a billion times. That call sign is etched into my memory along with Red-5, 1138 and AA-23. Stay in school kids. You need math to understand StarWars. Anyway, we all know the reason TK-421 didn't respond, he was lying unconscious from a blow to the head from a Wookie. Not many could resist the urge to black out after that kind of trauma. So Luke puts on TK-421s armor and goes with Han to save the princess.
What ever happened to TK-421? Is he dead? Was his career over? Did he turn to a life of pain killers and peanut butter & banana sandwiches? It's a question that people have asked even after all these years. Is TK-421 Alive?

YES! AND HE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!

Ladies and Gentlemen...I give you TK-421 Trooper ELVIS!

I've often wondered what would happen if my obsession with Star Wars and Tom's obsession with Elvis every collided. Well, now you know. Can you believe this guy? Hey Tom, maybe I can book him for your welcome home party. Kewl.

An Ear Full

"Laugh it up, Fuzzball!" - Han Solo

That pretty much sums it up. I look like one of those Roman-Greco Wrestlers or as my sister put it..."Uh bubba, that's not where the cup goes." Yeah....she's a real riot.

Well for those of you that didn't know, I had surgery on my right ear Wednesday morning. Apparantly my right eardrum receeded/collapsed and was lying on my earbones. Not good. So Dr. Gardner decided to go in and rebuild my eardrum with some cartilage, I still haven't figured out where the extra cartilage came from.
I haven't been in surgery in a long time. They took me back, made me put on the 'gown' and hooked me up to everything. The nurse that put in my IV was really liking me, not because of my uncanny resembelance to Tom Cruise, but because I have really big veins. They've always liked me. I think they could throw the needle from across the room and hit my vein if they wanted to. Then the anesthesiologists came in and said "Breathe this." That's pretty much the last thing I remember before waking up from a really bad trip. It was just like the movies. Everyone's heads were weird and they were all talking funny. Ungh! Then Pain! Owww my EAR! "Does your ear hurt?" one of the nurses asked. "DUH!" That's not what I said, but I think I got the message across with my expression. Jenn said I gave one nurse a look that well...wasn't nice at all. Hey, I was drugged. So they gave me some codene. Good stuff. Very Good stuff.
The nurse came in and started telling me how everything went and what I should expect with my recovery.
My hearing won't be normal for about 3 months in my right ear. (At the moment I can bearly hear anything)
Can't blow my nose for 3 weeks.
If I sneeze, open my mouth to take the pressure off my ears.
No lifting anything over 5lbs for 3 weeks.
Then he said something that made me grin from ear to sore ear....
"No yardwork for 3 weeks." Woooohooo!
Why don't we go ahead and do the left ear too. That'll take up a good part of the grass cutting season.

Anyway. The Doctor said that most of his patients need 2 weeks to fully recover, but I'm just taking one. I don't have
2 weeks to just hang out. But it's not like my job is very physical. That is untill Ron sticks his head in my door. He usually only ask for me when there is heavy lifting involved. Well Ron. I got my doctors excuse now. Good for 2 weeks after I get back to work.

Did I metion the dizziness that came with it. Wuuu. Inner ear's just a little off. Also, how do you put stitches inside your ear. When I asked how many stitches I had, he said several, but they're all inside my ear. He sewed it inside/out instead of outside/in. Weird. He also shaved that side of my head a bit but my hair grows back quick. That doesn't concern me. What DOES concern me is the S-W-E-L-L-I-N-G. Yep. I got a bonafide dumbo ear. He said the swelling will go down if a few weeks. (that's probably why people take 2 weeks to recover) I go to work in just 6 days. Not ony will I be working in mono-sound (which stinks because I'm in a multimedia field) but I'll have a huge ear. Bummer.

Well, that's it for now. I need to take another happy pill. Did I mention that I really like those pills.

FIREBRAND ROCKS!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to give all my loyal readers a 'heads up' on an extremely talented local Arkansas rock band. Whew...that wil take the breath out of you. It was brought to my attention during my last Kmax post that Firebrand wasn't mentioned. (Thanks Jason for keeping me staight) Well, I must say that...well...Kmax is still my all time favorite singer/performer. But now you have a goal. The bar has been set guys. Go for it!

Seriously though. This is a great band. These guys are really committed to what they do and do it with all humility and passion.
I met them a few years back in Paragould during an all day music festival. Crossroads Music Festival if my memory serves me right. I was a green producer with lots of ideas and visions yet to be marred by the realism of paperwork, beuracracy and the endless obsticle course that is broadcast televison. Anyway. I wanted to get some footage of various bands and also get some 'liners' for the station. {Liner- when a person or persons gives a station ID for said station} ex: "Hi, we're Firebrand and you're watching VTN." I thought it would be good to get some local faces on TV. Everyone like to see themselves on TV. So off I go with my mini-DV cam and a friend of mine to hear some good music.

Most of you who know me know that I'm a child of the 70's as far as music goes. Hendrix, Clapton, CCR, Ozzy, AC/DC, The Doors, Zeppelin, Stevie Ray, Skynyrd, etc. I'm a big guitar guy. Can't play a lick, but my wife says I'm a huge encyclopedia of useless guitar/music trivia. So I was hoping for some good guitar rock. I wasn't dissappointed there were several good bands there. One of which was Firebrand. What got my attention were the Guitar riffs. There was a fairly lengthy guitar solo so I snatched up my cam and started recording. Still have the footage too. Overtaken was the name of the song, and for the record is my favorite. Aaron was tearing it up with his guitar. Standing at the front of the stage demanding the attention of the crowds ears. One of the things I like about their music was that it was long. It just flowed...if it flowed for 3minutes or 7 that was fine. They let the music decide. Not the typical 3 1/2minutes demanded for radio play today. Back in the day a song was as long as a song needed to be...freebird, stairway..etc. Now it's so programmed and templated that it takes the life out of the music. Now don't get me wrong, there are still good songs out there. I just think they could be better if they were allowed to be free-formed instead of made to fit your raido friendly template. {Bang} ok, rabbit shot.

Anyway, Aron kinda looked like a 70's rocker up there. Wind was blowing his hair all over the place as he stood their in the classic guitar solo stance. You know the one I'm talking about. If not...well then you obviously listen/watch too much pop music. Now let's not forget the other guys, Jason & Nathan. A band is not just one person. They were great as well. They were all on the same page and it showed. After their set I made a point to find them and get them on camera. I also went and made a photocopy of a flyer that I did on the spot after hearing the bands there. It was for a contest that I had worked on with a promotion company called FLY. The winner would open their annual music festival "Vertical Fest" in Pine Bluff. Anyway, I wanted these guys to have one, so I wrote all the info down and gave it to them. They did a liner and one of them, not sure who, let out this loud "aiiiiaiiiaiiiiaiiiiyeeee!" at the end. It was hiliarious, I left it in the spot. These guys knew who they were and enjoyed what they did. I could tell that just by the few minutes I met with them. So months later as I'm getting several CDs from bands wanting to win the contest ( I must say that 90% of the music that came through my desk was nowhere near the quality to perform on a stage at an event that hosted bands like Pillar, Audio A, Superchick, GRITS, Hawk Nelson, Disciple...etc.) My boss and I were a little disappointed. I figured that the bands that actually had the talent to win were probably playing gigs and just didn't want to bother with it. Thank goodness Firebrand decided to send in there demo. At the end there were about 3 bands that were in the running. Firebrand being one of them. I choose the finalist. Then my boss made his recommendations, then the promoter made his decision. Firebrand was the winner.
It was a real treat to call the guys and tell them that they won. I think they nearly lost their minds...and a lot of sleep. LOL. They deserved it.

Well we have kept intouch and I'm still trying to get them on TV. It's a slow, tedious process. They're currently working on a full length album. It's going to rock. I was privilaged to be able to hear a track off of it called "Shape Me". I wish I coud let you guys hear this music. When the album is done, I'll be sure to give you all the info you need to purchase a copy. It's money well spent supporting great music and a great ministry. That's what they see themselves as. God has given them a talent and they intend to use it for His glory. Rock On guys. Just make sure that I get an exclusive backstage interview when ya'll go on your nationwide tour.

Firebrand is Aaron Wilkin, Jason Baird and Nathan Cole.

Check out their website here.

When I find the footage of them performing at the crossroad music festival, I'll post a clip of it. They won't mind. (right Jason?)

NOW SHOWING
LUKE: I wonder who she is. It sounds like she's in trouble. I'd better
play back the whole thing.

Artoo beeps something to Threepio.

THREEPIO: He says the restraining bolt has short circuited his
recording system. He suggests that if you remove the bolt, he might be
able to play back the entire recording.

Yeah, I know. I've got a new toy and playing with. Here are three clips for your viewing pleasure. Those of you with dial-up let me know how it is. I'll try to keep the clips under 2 minutes for quicker streaming.

SPY KIDS: Haven & Xander wanted to check on Addy, Haven's playmate next door. She wasn't home, but that didn't stop them form snooping.

BIG SWING: Haven wanted to try out the 'big' swing. I'm so proud of her. She's growing up so fast.

YARD PLAY 1: Just random clips of them playing. It starts with Haven saying she wants a puppy. Papaw, I believe that is your territory.

Enjoy

Media Finally!

Greetings All!

I finally found a media player that works with mac and blogger. Check it out for yourself at Stickam.com.

I can post the new vids in my post. The first is a video of Haven & Xander doing the E.L.M.O. dance. Cool. But I also have the full player located at the bottor of the right sidebar. I've included several Kmax tunes. I wanted to show a range of his music.

Sidebar Player: If you want to have a bigger screen for viewing click the button on the far left (menu button) (looks like a circle with an arrow pointing through it) and then select open bigger screen.

Player inside post: For bigger screen click on video.

Enjoy, I'll put more in it later.
